San Francisco Chronicle

Rain seems plentiful

Regarding “Calls to cut water use are ignored” (Front Page, May 11): The article noted that water usage has increased, instead of decreasing, during this current drought.

If one reads the Weather page in Friday’s Chronicle, it will be noted in the rainfall column that precipitation for San Francisco was 18.47 inches for the season to date and 22.14 inches for a normal to season to date, which runs July to July. Oakland and Sacramento are less than an inch behind. This does not appear to the average reader to be a drought.

Perhaps weather experts should revise their definition of drought conditions because to the water ratepayers it seems like a good rain year.
