Lynx beat Liberty despite Ionescu’s 31

New York Liberty 84-77 in WNBA play after nearly blowing a 19-point lead late in the third quarter. Orinda’s Sabrina Ionescu led the Liberty with 31 points, seven assists and three 3-pointers.

Las Vegas beat Dallas 84-78, and Hayward’s Chelsea Gray had 18 points for the Aces . ... Connecticu­t beat Seattle 93-86, with Stanford alum DiJonai Carrington chipping in 12 points for the Sun . ... Chicago beat Washington 91-82.

NBA: Quin Snyder resigned as coach of the Utah Jazz, ending an eight-year run where the team went 372-264 but never got past the second round of the playoffs. Snyder released a statement through the team, part of it simply saying “it is time.”

Snyder’s decision means the Jazz will have a fourth coach in the span of 33 years when next season begins. Jerry Sloan was followed by Tyrone Corbin, who was followed by Snyder.

“Quin Snyder has embodied what Jazz basketball is for the last eight years,” Jazz owner Ryan Smith said. “The tireless work ethic and attention to detail Quin displayed each day is a testament to the profession­al he is. I have nothing but admiration for Quin and respect his decision.”

College baseball: No. 2 Stanford beat UC Santa Barbara 8-4 in an eliminatio­n game at the Stanford regional. The Cardinal faced Texas State later Sunday, needing to win that game and another Monday against TSU to advance to the super regionals. The Bobcats won 5-2 when the teams met in their first game of the regional.

Softball: Holly Azevedo threw a two-hitter and the fifth-seeded Bruins beat Florida 8-0 in six innings to reach the Women’s College World Series semifinals in Oklahoma City.

Motor sports: Joey Logano jockeyed for the lead with Kyle Busch in overtime, got around him for good just before the white flag flew and cruised to the victory in the NASCAR Cup Series race in Madison, Ill. Kurt Busch finished third.

⏩ Will Power closed the Belle Isle era with a Team Penske victory, taking the final Detroit Grand Prix on the island park to reclaim the IndyCar points lead.
