Ruth Ellen Werner passed away after a long illness, on August 9, 2022, at the age of 69 in San Francisco, California. Born in Chicago, she grew up in Aurora, Illinois and in the Washington DC area. She attended Montgomery County Junior College, Tufts University, and graduate school in business at Wake Forest University. Ruth believed that businesses should serve their communities, and put this belief into practice first as a bank examiner and later working for an investment company in San Francisco, assessing opportunities for investment in small businesses in Poland and Vietnam. Ruth loved to take long walks in her beloved city, stopping daily to enjoy a coffee at the communal table at the Trieste. Then, walking back along the waterfront to enjoy a cocktail and cheer for her teams at the Bus Stop then often eating at Perry’s or Pane e Vino where she was a beloved patron. Ruth counted among her friends sports fans, beat poets, jazz musicians, writers and restaurateurs. She was a bright light in the lives of friends and family, with whom she loved to talk deeply, and joke as well. We will miss her, but can be comforted by the blessing of having known her. She is survived by her mother, Sara Mae, brother Mark (Yana), sister Carol, (Joe) nephews, Jules, Dorian, Adam and Isaac, many cousins and friends. Memorial Service will be held in Gainesville FL.
