WHEN OSU HAS THE BALL

- — Steve Kroner

• Several members of Cal’s defense, including linebackers Blake Antzoulatos, Braxten Croteau and Muelu Iosefa and defensive backs Lu-Magia Hearns and Collin Gamble, missed last Saturday’s game. It’s not certain how many — if any — of those players will be ready to go against Oregon State.

• It’s also uncertain who will start at QB for the Beavers, Ben Gulbranson or Chance Nolan. Gulbranson has started the past four games (three wins) since Nolan suffered a neck injury in a 42-16 loss at Utah on Oct. 1. Gulbranson struggled in the loss at Seattle as the Huskies held him to 87 passing yards. Nolan was the starter in 2020 and 2021.

• Martinez has run for at least 107 yards in each of the past three games. The Beavers boast two other solid running backs in Deshaun Fenwick (393 yards, 4.6 per carry and six rushing TDs) and Jam Griffin (377, 5.6, two).
