Consecutive subpar offensive seasons did not deter the San Francisco Giants from re-signing outfielder Mike Yastrzemski, as the sides avoided arbitration Friday.

According to multiple reports, the Giants signed Yastrzemski, 32, to a one-year deal worth $6.1 million.

Yastrzemski is in his first year of arbitration. He made $3.7 million this past season, while hitting a career-low .214 with a .305 on-base percentage (also a career low), with his lowest OBP and slugging (.392) in his four seasons as an outfield regular. His 17 home runs were good for third on the 2022 Giants, his 57 RBIs ranked fourth, and some of his defensive metrics were better than they were the previous season, when he was a Gold Glove finalist.

Yastrzemski’s defense stood out all the more in 2022 on a Giants club that was at the bottom of most defensive metrics, allowing an MLB-worst minus-44 defensive runs saved. He was in the plus category, at 2 overall, and 3 in center field.

The Giants also reached terms with reliever Scott Alexander on a one-year deal. They officially non-tendered reliever Jarlín García, infielder Jason Vosler, right-handers Sam Delaplane and Drew Strotman, catchers Dom Nuñez and Meibrys Viloria, and infielder Colton Welker, who all had been designated for assignment earlier in the week. Infielder Donnie Walton and left-hander Alex Young were also non-tendered Friday.
