Suspect in Stanford mall shooting held in Palo Alto
Palo Alto police said Tuesday that they arrested a man suspected in the shooting at the Stanford Shopping Center that forced dozens of people into lockdown a day earlier.
The shooting shattered a glass window at a steak restaurant at the shopping center, but no one was injured.
Zachary Michael Ginsberg, 32 of San Jose, was arrested on suspicion of firing the shots. Ginsberg, an employee of the restaurant, was allegedly “sending threatening text messages to his former supervisor as a result of an interpersonal conflict” prior to the shooting, police said.
No lockdowns were ordered by police as a result of the shooting, though some community members at the mall tweeted that they were locked down. Others tweeted that they had been evacuated.
In their search on El Camino Real, officers found evidence that indicated that at least two shots were fired from there. A witness reported seeing the suspect flee from that area in a black Chevrolet Camaro, according to Palo Alto police, who said Ginsberg owned a Camaro. The front window of Fleming’s was struck by one round, and an unoccupied parked vehicle nearby was also struck with one round.
