Keep elections leader
Regarding “S.F. election chief might lose his job” (Bay Area & Business, Nov. 23): I was astonished to read in the morning paper that the San Francisco Elections Commission has voted against the renewal of John Arntz’s contract in order to try and diversify the top ranks of the department.
While that may be a worthy goal, you do not get there by essentially firing a devoted public servant who, most importantly, is an extraordinarily capable leader who has served us all with distinction, regardless of the challenges he faced.
The commissioners must back down or be fired for their own ineptness.
