Go out on own terms
Regarding “Feinstein can end tenure with respect” (Open Forum, Nov. 21): Gil Duran’s article on Dianne Feinstein was compassionate in its praise and thoughtful in its plea for a dignified retirement.
Some contend that aging and growing older are distinct processes. Aging can be analogous to wine, deepening in spirit and nuance while growing older is simply the deterioration of cells and tissues.
As a senior, I’ve experienced both aspects of human mortality, and I try to balance the increased spiritual perspective that age can bring with the recognition of physical and mental limitations.
I endorse Duran’s recommendation for not only Feinstein but for other world leaders to leave their legacy and create an open path for the best and brightest to follow
