No replacement needed
Regarding “S.F. election chief might lose his job” (Bay Area & Business, Nov. 23): It is a huge mistake for the San Francisco Elections Commission to fire the director of the Elections Department.
Commissioners say they want people of all backgrounds to apply, which is code for people of color. Now, when a person of color takes over a job traditionally held by a white person, that is progress and a good thing, but only when the previous holder of the job leaves voluntarily or is fired for cause,
not when he is forced to leave his job simply because he is white.
This plays into the right-wing, hatemongering “great replacement” idea (which I thought was fiction until now) because that’s exactly what this is.
