Richard Amelio Bergamaschi, 92, passed away peacefully in Redwood City on January 15, 2023. He was born on October 12,1930 to Peter and Virginia (Uccelli) Bergamaschi. When he was 12 he lost both parents and was raised by his maternal grandmother, Theresa Uccelli. He spent most of his life in South San Francisco. While attending South City High he was an avid basketball player earning the prestigious blanket award in that sport. High school is where he met the love of his life, Barbara Lee Ryan. Married on February 14, 1954, they lived a charmed life together for 67 years before Barbaras passing in 2021. Raising their two children Richard (Marchele) and Lori (Sam) Runco was one of their greatest joy. An even greater joy were their grandkids Chad, Marcus, Paige, Sarah, Sammy and Nick. Great great grandchildren Bentley, Luca, Stella and Ava brought a smile to his face every time he saw them.

Rich had a long career in the grocery industry. Starting as a teenager as a bagger and quickly moving up as the buyer for Brentwood Markets and eventually, Pak-N-Save and Safeway. After decades in the grocery business and the day after he retired he immediately went to work for Runco International. First one in the office and last one out of the office was his daily routine. He also was a great golfer. Rich could be found any day of the week on a golf course. He has had 3 hole in ones. Rich and Barbara would travel often with their friends to golfing vacations. Aptos and Tahoe were the preferred family vacations every year. He also enjoyed the 49er’s and the world famous Super Bowl parties he and Barbara would host. Rich had a green thumb and could be found working in his garden where he grew unusually large vegetables. He was a very kind and generous man who will be missed greatly. May he rest in peace. Services will take place at Garden Chapel, South San Francisco on Monday, January 23, 2023 at 10:00 a.m.
