Actor Jeremy Renner, who was run over by a snowplow on New Years’ Day, provided an update on his recovery to his fans on Twitter and Instagram, saying he’d suffered “30 plus” broken bones as a result of the accident.

“I want to thank EVERYONE for their messages and thoughtfullness. Much love and appreciation to you all,” the Modesto native tweeted Saturday. “These 30 plus broken bones will mend, grow stronger, just like the love and bond with family and friends deepens.”

A picture posted by Renner along with the tweet showed him in a hospital bed, with a physician examining one of his legs.

The freak accident occurred around 9 a.m. Jan. 1 when one of Renner’s family members got stuck in a mound of snow while driving Renner’s car in his driveway on a private road off Mount Rose Highway near Reno. Renner towed the car out of the snow using his PistenBully, a giant snowmoving machine that weighs at least 14,330 pounds — but when he got out of the machine to speak with the family member, the machine started moving, Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam said after the accident.

Renner, 52, attempted to reach the driver’s seat to apply the brakes on the machine but it barreled over him. “An eyewitness detailed seeing Mr. Renner getting into the PistenBully, and not seeing him again until the PistenBully came to a rest, in a pile of snow, in front of his driveway,” Balaam said.

Messages of support from Renner’s friends and family poured in after his tweet. Chris Evans, who has starred in several Marvel movies with Renner, replied, “that’s one tough mf’er. Has anyone even checked on the snowcat??? Sending so much love.” Chris Hemsworth, another Marvel co-star, replied to Renner’s post and called the “Hawkeye” actor a champion. “We love you,” Hemsworth said.
