Focus on shooting victims
Following every mass shooting or other horrendous act of violence news coverage focuses on the motivation of the perpetrator or perpetrators. Why?
Isn’t it enough to know there is no justification for such acts? Wouldn’t it be better to deny the perpetrators the attention they may crave because of their twisted sense of justice and/or mental instability?
As a society, we should vigorously lament these acts when they happen and offer our support to the victims. Meanwhile, while our law enforcement and mental health professionals search for answers in their investigations, news coverage should focus on the tragedy that took place. And not a word about the perpetrators is written or spoken. Donald Waters, Pleasant Hill
