Purdue tops Ohio State

Abbey Ellis made five 3pointers and Purdue beat a topfive team on the road for the first time in program history by topping No. 2 Ohio State 73-65 on Sunday.

The Buckeyes (19-3, 8-3 Big Ten) lost their third consecutiv­e contest.

Up by 17 points early in the third quarter, Purdue saw its lead dwindle as Ohio State rallied in the second half.

Ohio State used a 9-0 run to bring the score to 55-53 with 6:58 left in the fourth quarter, and Taylor Thierry tied it at 58 after a layup with 4:28 remaining.

Purdue (15-6, 6-5) created separation over the next two minutes as Madison Layden scored five straight points and Ellis made a jumper to go up 65-58.

#1 South Carolina 65, Alabama 52: Aliyah Boston had 16 points and 12 rebounds and Bree Hall scored 18 to lead the visiting Gamecocks (21-0, 9-0 SEC) to their 27th straight win.

Other Top-25 highlights: Aubrey Griffin scored 19 points and No. 5 UConn topped No. 21 Villanova 63-58 in Hartford, Conn. Dorka Juhasz added 16 points for the Huskies (20-2, 12-0 Big East) in the team’s 13th straight win . ... Grace Berger and Mackenzie Holmes each scored 21 points and No. 6 Indiana beat Rutgers 91-68 . ... Diamond Johnson scored 20 points and No. 20 North Carolina State (16-5, 6-4 ACC) held on to win 69-65 at home despite blowing most of a 16-point lead against No. 7 Notre Dame . ... Alissa Pili, who scored 23 points, drove for a go-ahead layup with 0.8 of a second left to give No. 9 Utah a 71-69 home win over No. 8 UCLA. The Utes (18-2, 8-2 Pac-12) closed on a 7-0 run . ... Bella Murekatete scored 18 points, Ula Motuga added 16, and the two hit key buckets down the stretch, lifting Washington State to a 70-59 victory over No. 19 Arizona . ... Destiny Littleton had 21 points, Rayah Marshall and Kadi Sissoko had double-doubles, and visiting USC beat No. 25 Colorado 71-54.

Men’s Top-25 games: Zach Edey scored 38 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, helping No. 1 Purdue (21-1, 10-1 Big Ten) beat visiting Michigan State 7761 for its eighth straight win . ...
