Martha Summa

January 9, 1958 - February 20, 2023

Martha “Moe” Shiels Summa, age 65, passed away peacefully in her home on February 20, 2023. She was born January 9, 1958 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She married David Summa in 1988 in Cincinnati, OH.

She graduated from Trinity Washington University and lived a life dedicated to public and community service. In the final chapter of Moe’s career, she built her dream business of college consulting for students with learning differences through the College Consulting Collaborative.

Moe was an honorable woman of deep integrity. She was trustworthy, full of light, and seemingly infallible. She had a gift for forging communities, and everyone she encountered is made better for having known her. Moe’s greatest work was being a mother to her three bright daughters. The values and love she instilled in them will carry her memory onward.

She is predeceased by her parents, Richard Shiels and Marjorie DuBrul Shiels, and her brother William Shiels. She is survived by her husband David Summa; daughters Madeline, Margaret, and Catherine Summa; siblings Patricia Carr, Hugh Shiels, Mary McCarty, Elizabeth Shiels, Frances Eagan, Daniel Shiels, Marc Shiels, Regina Davis, and Janet Nelson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass celebrating Moe’s life will be held at Our Lady of Angels Church in Burlingame, CA on February 25 at 3:00pm, with a visitation at 2:30pm. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her memory to St. Ignatius College Preparatory at www.siprep.org.
