Mitchell, Cavaliers rally past Celtics
CLEVELAND — Donovan Mitchell scored 40 points and Lamar Stevens fueled Cleveland's fourthquarter comeback with his hustle, leading the Cavaliers to a 118-114 win on Monday night over the Boston Celtics, who lost their second overtime game in less than 24 hours.
Evan Mobley added 25 points and 16 rebounds for the Cavs, who improved to 7-0 in OT while avenging a loss in Boston five days ago.
Jaylen Brown scored 32 points and Malcolm Brogdon 24 for the Celtics, who didn't arrive at their hotel in Cleveland until 2:30 a.m. after losing to the New York Knicks in double overtime on Sunday.
Embiid, Sixers outlast Pacers
Joel Embiid scored 42 points, James Harden added 14 points, 20 assists and nine rebounds, and the Philadelphia 76ers pulled away late for a 147-143 victory over the Indiana Pacers in Indianapolis.
Embiid made 11 of 16 field goals and all 19 free-throw attempts. Tyrese Maxey scored 24 points and Jalen McDaniels added 20 for the 76ers.
In other games, Damian Lillard had 31 points, 13 rebounds and 12 assists, securing his second tripledouble of the season before the end of the third quarter, and the Trail Blazers beat the Pistons 110-104 in Detroit . ... Jimmy Butler scored 26 points, including a pair of key free throws in the final seconds, to lead the Heat to a 130-128 win over the Hawks in Miami.
No timetable for Morant’s return
There's no timetable for Ja Morant to return to the Memphis Grizzlies, and the All-Star guard knows he's made “difficult decisions and poor choices” that he has to be accountable for, coach Taylor Jenkins said Sunday night.
Morant was not with the team in Los Angeles for games against the Clippers on Sunday and the Lakers on Tuesday while the NBA investigates a social media post in which he appeared to be holding a gun.
Morant streamed the video on his Instagram account early Saturday of himself holding what appeared to be a gun at a nightclub, hours after playing in Denver.
On Monday, police in Colorado said they were investigating Morant's actions and whether he may have broken any laws.
