SATURDAY’S STATE TITLE GAMES

-

The state high school basketball championships conclude with Saturday’s six games at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento. All games streamed on the NFHS Network.

Division 5 girls, 10 a.m.

Marina-Huntington Beach (21-15) vs. Bret Harte-Angels Camp (25-7): Marina, which was 6-20 in 2021-22, has turned it around behind freshman guard Rylee Bradley.

Division 4 boys, noon

Valencia (26-10) vs. Half Moon Bay (21-10): Half Moon Bay, coached by John Parsons, started the season 3-6 and didn’t win a league or section crown, but is one win from being a state champ thanks largely to 6-8 junior Jaeden Hutchins, freshman Gio Garduno-Martin and point guard Dio Lucido. As the No. 10 NorCal seed, they are the lowest seed to make the state finals. Valencia has won 13 straight.

Division 2 girls, 2 p.m.

Bonita Vista-Chula Vista (23-9) vs. Central-Fresno (22-12): Bonita Vista scored 48 second-half points to defeat Leuzing-Lawndale 80-67 in the SoCal final.

Division 2 boys, 4 p.m.

Pacifica Christian-Newport Beach (27-9) vs. San Joaquin Memorial-Fresno (25-9): San Joaquin Memorial, which beat Moreau Catholic-Hayward 79-55 on Jan. 16 and California-San Ramon 72-59 last week in the NorCal quarterfinals, is led by 6-9 post Mike Davis Jr.

Open Division girls, 6 p.m.

Etiwanda-Rancho Cucamonga (31-3) vs. Mitty (28-2): These teams have never met, but Mitty and USA Basketball coach Sue Phillips has seen plenty of Etiwanda leading scorer and rebounder Kennedy Smith at Olympic Development camps. “She’s quite a talent and a very difficult matchup,” Phillips said of the 6-1 junior.

Open Division boys, 8 p.m.

Harvard-Westlake-Studio City (32-2) vs. St. Joseph-Santa Maria (28-6): While Harvard-Westlake goes seven deep with Division I college prospects, St. Joseph’s chances largely hinge on the vast talents of one of the country’s top sophomores, 6-6 Tounde Yessoufou (28 ppg, 11 rpg).
