Doris Buvelot-Harkins
January 14, 1987 - February 25, 2023
Doris Miriam Buvelot-Harkins passed away peacefully on February 25,
2023 at the age of 36 after a battle with Synovial Sarcoma cancer and Pneumonia .
Doris was born January 14, 1987 in San Francisco, California, but was
raised and spent most of her life in Contra Costa County. She was an active
member of the St. Catherine of Siena Parish community, having
participated in the teen team leadership program during high school. After
graduating with a degree in Nursing/BSN-RN in 2012 from Dominican
University in San Rafael, Doris moved to Medford, Oregon to start her
career as a nurse at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center Hospital. In
2016, she moved back to California to be closer to her family and began
work for Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford in Palo Alto. In
continuation of pursuing her passion to work with children, in 2018 Doris
began work as a Registered Nurse at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital
Oakland in their Endocrinology Department. Doris loved being a nurse,
she was able to touch so many lives while making her dreams a reality. In
2017, Doris met her true love, Daniel Harkins. They were wed August 7,
2021 in a beautiful ceremony at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in
Livermore. While Doris looked forward to becoming a mother, she
unfortunately never had the chance as her illness cut her dream short
resulting in her cat, Stella, becoming the child they could dote on.
Doris was known to friends, family, patients, and co-workers as someone
with a beautiful smile, a warm and loving heart, and who was patient and
kind to everyone she crossed paths with. She immediately lit up any room
she entered and touched so many lives, having had a positive impact on
friends and strangers alike. Doris was also an inspiration with her sheer
persistence to accomplish her goals and make her dreams come true. Her
resilience and grit were truly impressive.
Doris was preceded in death by her grandfather John, grandmother Odette,
and aunt Josephine. She is survived by her husband Dan, loving parents
Gilbert and Christine, her sister Adriana, and brother Anthony.
Before her passing, Doris requested an organization be founded where her
legacy of generosity and love of serving others would be able to continue.
Due to this last request, in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be
made to the Doris Buvelot-Harkins Sarcoma Foundation.
