A native of New York City, his late parents Lafayette and Jeanne moved the family to the Pasadena area when he was very young. In 1939 when he was 15 they moved to San Diego where he converted to Roman Catholicis­m. A 1944 graduate of St. Augustine’s High School, San Diego, he then attended Los Angeles Junior Seminary 1944-1947 and St. John’s Seminary in Camarillo 1947-1951, Novitiate of Our Lady of the Elms on Staten Island, NY and Marist College, Washington, D.C.. He Professed with the Society of Mary on September 8, 1958 and was Ordained at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Washington, D.C., on February 4, 1961.

Fr. Phil served at St. Catherine’s Church, Kealia, Kauai, HI, St Theresa’s Church, Kekaha, Kauai, HI, All Hallows’ Church, San Francisco, CA, Second Novitiate in Bedford, Mass, Star of the Sea Church, Honolulu, HI, and at the Marist Center in San Francisco until his retirement in 2002. He was in residence at the Marist Center until relocating to St. Anne’s Home in

San Francisco in 2019.

Fr. Phil served in Campus Ministry and as Chaplain for several organizati­ons including the Kauai Catholic Youth Organizati­on and the Young Men’s Institute.

Friends may call on Wednesday, March 22 after 3 p.m. at DUGGAN’S FUNERAL SERVICE, 3434 17th St. S.F. where the Vigil will be held at 7:30 p.m. and after 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 23 at Notre Dame des Victoires Church, 566 Bush St. where the Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Committal, Marist plot, Holy Cross Cemetery.
