Megan Alexander passed away at home on March 6, 2023 after a 3 ½ year battle with melanoma. Megan was born in Glen Cove, NY on November 8, 1953, the oldest of three children, daughter of Thomas & Blanche Heraghty. Raised in Levittown, she attended Holy Family School & Division Avenue HS. Megan went to her senior prom with her future husband Tom, in 1971. She graduated from SUNY New Paltz in ‘75 with a degree in sociology. She & Tom married in 1977 & moved to the west coast, settling initially in San Francisco.

In 1984 Tom’s career took him to San Jose, the couple purchased a house in Fremont. There, they raised Sean (1981) & Emily (1987). Megan’s passions were travel & whatever her children were doing. She loved a well-planned trip & leaned heavily on Rick Steves’ books.

Her primary interest was her children, whether kayaking the Piney River in TN with Emily or supporting Sean’s annual AIDS/ LifeCycle bike ride from SF to LA. Megan & her sister Kathy started a tradition of doing memorable group outings every December 23. From Monterey to Crissy Field to Occidental the families would spelunk, zip line, & ride the little yellow cars. Her love of the beach brought us to Crystal Cove in SoCal & the Russian River. It’s crazy to think of the number of friendships that were established at Froggy Beach over the years. In 2013, they moved to Oakland, spending their time playing bocce with the Buono-Faheys, wine tasting and, of course, more travel.

In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to any organization that makes a positive impact on the world.
