1-0).

Storyline: Following a week off, the Spartans face the Broncos on the blue turf at Albertsons Stadium. San Jose State’s four losses (at No. 9 USC, vs. No. 15 Oregon State, at Toledo and vs. Air Force) have come against teams with a combined record of 18-2. “The people that we have lost to are all pretty darn good,” SJSU head coach Brent Brennan said. “That is what it is and now we’re playing the perennial power from our conference on the road, so we’ve got to get ready for this one.” Boise State has won 14 of the 15 matchups with San Jose State, but the Spartans prevailed in the most recent meeting, a 34-20 decision in the 2020 MWC championship game in Las Vegas.

WHAT TO WATCH

• SJSU QB Chevan Cordeiro put up similar passing numbers in the Spartans’ past two games, against

Toledo (24 completions, 228 yards, one interception) and Air Force (24 completions, 239 yards, one interception). He could have a breakout game against the Broncos, who rank 11th in the MWC in passing efficiency defense (168.6) and 10th in passing yards allowed per game (289.2).

• The Broncos used two quarterbacks, Taylen Green and Maddux Madsen, in their 35-32 loss at Memphis last Saturday. Green went 12-for-24 for 200 yards. Madsen was 11-for-14 for 175 yards and two scores. Green has started all five games this season and is listed as the starter. Boise State head coach Andy Avalos said he expects both QBs will play against the Spartans.

• San Jose State ranks last in the MWC in rushing defense, with 216 yards allowed per game, so the Broncos figure to give the ball often to running back Ashton Jeanty. Not only does the 5-foot-9, 210-pound sophomore lead the conference in rushing yards per game (97.8), he also entered the weekend leading the nation in touchdowns with 12. Jeanty has scored eight times on the ground and four via the pass; he has 23 receptions for 338 yards.
