Neymar suffers torn ACL, meniscus while playing for Brazil

Brazil forward Neymar tore his ACL and meniscus while playing in a World Cup qualifying game, his club Al Hilal confirmed Wednesday.

Neymar injured his left knee in Brazil's 2-0 loss against Uruguay on Tuesday.

Al Hilal did not say how long the 31-year-old Neymar is expected to be out, but it can take six months to a year to recover from ACL injuries.

Neymar broke Pele's Brazil scoring record last month with his 78th goal for his country in a World Cup qualifying match against Bolivia.

Messi's annualized compensati­on from his Major League Soccer contract with Inter Miami is $20.4 million, the MLS Players Associatio­n said Wednesday.

Messi earns more than the entire payroll of all but three other MLS teams and twice as much as every player combined on Orlando City.

Messi is followed by Toronto's Lorenzo Insigne at $15.4 million, Chicago's Xherdan Shaqiri at $8,153,000, and the LA Galaxy's Javier Hernández at $7,443,750.

Miami tops the league with a $39.4 million payroll based on total guaranteed compensati­on, followed by Toronto at $32.3 million, the LA Galaxy at $25 million and LAFC at $20.8 million.

In an exhibition, Gio Reyna scored his first two internatio­nals goals since a family feud with coach Gregg Berhalter erupted at last year's World Cup, leading the United States to a 4-0 rout of Ghana on Tuesday night at Nashville, Tenn.

ELSEWHERE 76ers uncertain about Harden’s status

Philadelph­ia 76ers coach Nick Nurse said he had no explanatio­n for why James Harden skipped practice on Wednesday but planned to proceed as if the disgruntle­d guard will play in the preseason finale Friday.

“If he's here, we go; if he's not here, we go,” Nurse said at the 76ers' complex in Camden, N.J.

Harden has yet to play in the preseason. He did attend training camp and continued to practice with the 76ers in the wake of his offseason trade demand.

The skipped practice leaves the 76ers unsure of what comes next.

In another NBA developmen­t, the All-Star Game may soon return to an East vs. West format. Commission­er Adam Silver said changes are coming to the All-Star Game — and while stopping short of saying any decision has been finalized, he hinted that the current format of top vote-getters serving as captains and drafting their own teams may be shelved.

MLB: The Detroit Tigers complex in the Dominican Republic was targeted Wednesday in the latest robbery of a Major League Baseball facility in the country, police said.

One man was apprehende­d and police are searching for four others who entered the complex with guns, restrained the security guard and went to the players' rooms to steal valuables and cash, Dominican Police spokesman Diego Pesqueira said.

The robbery happened days after the St. Louis Cardinals complex in the country was hit. The facilities of the Miami Marlins and Cleveland Guardians also were robbed recently.
