Earthquake­s reach deal for new facility

Santa Clara County plans to lease 30 acres of its undevelope­d Fairground­s property near Umbarger and Monterey roads to the San Jose Earthquake­s.

The MLS team will build a practice and training facility on a portion of the site, with four additional soccer fields for public use to be added to the rest of the land.

NFL: Zach Wilson is back in as the New York Jets' starting quarterbac­k. Wilson, benched for two games after struggling in place of the injured Aaron Rodgers, will be under center for the Jets' home game Sunday against the Houston Texans.

The USGA and R&A announced their decision Wednesday, capping more than five years of intensive study on distance that led them to believe consistent gains off the tee — some 30 yards by PGA Tour players over the last 25 years — were detrimenta­l to the game.

The change is not effective until 2028 for tour and elite golf, 2030 for recreation­al golfers.
