Late free throws lift Santa Clara women

Nearly perfect freethrow shooting in the final 90 seconds propelled the Santa Clara women to a 72-59 defeat of USF at Leavey Center on Saturday.

The Broncos (15-3, 3-2 WCC) made 7 of 8 free throws down the stretch to remain unbeaten in eight home games. Jayde Cadee made all four of hers in that stretch and finished with 12 points.

Tess Heal scored 21 points and Olivia Pollerd 17 (and seven rebounds) for Santa Clara, which has equaled last season's win total.

Jasmine Gayles led the Dons (7-11, 3-2) with 17 points and six rebounds.

No. 17 Gonzaga 89, St. Mary’s 60: In Spokane, Wash., the Bulldogs outscored the Gaels in every quarter. St. Mary's (8-10, 1-3 WCC) got 17 points from Tayla Dalton and 16 from Addison Wedin.

Kaylynne Truong led Gonzaga (18-2, 5-0) with 25 points. San Diego State 63,

San Jose State 51: In their first nationally televised game since 2006, the Spartans (6-12, 1-5) led the host Aztecs (12-8, 3-4) for only 2 minutes, 14 seconds in losing their fourth straight Mountain West Conference game. SJSU was led by Amhyia Moreland's game-high 18 points.

Men

Stanford 90, Washington 80: Spencer Jones hit eight 3-pointers and scored 30 points, both career highs, as the host Cardinal (10-8, 5-3 Pac-12) edged the Huskies (11-8, 3-5). California 81, Washington State 75 (OT):

Jaylon Tyson tied a career-high with 30 points as the host Golden Bears (7-12, 3-5 Pac-12) led for the duration of overtime. Santa Clara 101, Portland 86: Christoph Tilly's 22 points lifted the host Broncos (14-7, 5-1 WCC).
