Amazon is slashing “a few hundred” jobs, this time in its health division, despite reported success.

Business Insider reported Tuesday that the company was cutting hundreds of jobs at its San Franciscobased One Medical and Amazon Pharmacy. In an internal email obtained by Business Insider, Neil Lindsay, Amazon’s senior vice president of health services, said the cuts would be made because “we have identified areas where we can reposition resources so we can invest in inventions and experiences that have a direct impact on our customers and members of all ages.”

“Unfortunately, these changes will result in the elimination of a few hundred roles across One Medical and Amazon Pharmacy,” he said, according to Business Insider. “We are aware these role eliminations are difficult for those impacted, as well as those who have worked alongside them.”

Amazon did not respond to a request for comment.

In the same email, according to Business Insider, Lindsay highlighted the advances the health care business had made in 2023, including expanding the Amazon Clinic, more affordable medications through RxPass and automatic coupons for customers. Lindsay said the “marketplace” had received a 96% customer satisfaction rating. “The past year has been incredibly exciting for all of our health care businesses, and we’re seeing tremendous growth for Amazon Pharmacy, One Medical, and Amazon Clinic,” Lindsay said.

Lindsay said the company would offer affected employees financial support, continued benefits and the opportunity to apply for new roles.
