Baseball fans in the Bay Area might want to start making other entertainment plans in October, according to two high-profile websites’ projections.

FanGraphs pinned the San Francisco Giants’ chances of making the playoffs at 24.8% and the Oakland Athletics at 1.6% — which, surprisingly, is still better than the White Sox (0.8%), Nationals (0.3%) and Rockies (0.1%).

Baseball Prospectus’ PECOTA standings are slightly higher on the Giants, giving San Francisco a 32.4% chance of postseason play, but PECOTA has little love for the A’s at 0.1%. In PECOTA’s simulated season results, the Giants would go 80-82 — and Oakland 64-98, a significant improvement over last year’s 50-112 record.

FanGraphs has San Francisco at 79-83 (the team’s record last season) and Oakland at an even more unexpected 69-93.

PECOTA’s favorites in the National League are the Dodgers (99.7% chance of making the postseason) and Braves (99.4%) and in the American League, the Yankees (91.5%) and Houston (91.3%), with the Dodgers and Yankees tabbed as the most likely World Series teams.

FanGraphs does World Series victor projections and, in something of a surprise, gives Atlanta a 24.9% chance of winning it all. The Dodgers are second at 16.9%.

Projections, of course, can go sideways. At this same point last year, the Padres were FanGraph’s NL West favorites, with an 85.3% chance of postseason play and an expected 91-71 record; San Diego went 82-80 and missed the playoffs. PECOTA was more accurate, projecting the Dodgers with 96 wins and the Padres 92 and had the Giants finishing under .500.

The Giants’ odds might improve over the next few weeks should they sign another major free agent or two, as expected. They have had talks recently with slugger Jorge Soler and third baseman Matt Chapman remains a target. Should the Giants acquire another top starter, such as Blake Snell, they’d take another jump forward, given that two of their best starters, Alex Cobb (hip) and Robbie Ray (Tommy John surgery) will miss the first few months of the season.

?? Carlos Avila Gonzalez/The Chronicle ?? Logan Webb and the Giants are projected by FanGraphs and Baseball Prospectus to finish under .500 and out of the playoffs for a third straight season. The A’s were projected to lose more than 90 games.
