Ayesha Curry is expecting her fourth child with Golden State Warriors basketball star Stephen Curry.

In a new interview, the cookbook author and television personality shared that despite initially thinking they were done having kids, the celebrity couple had a lingering feeling that “somebody was missing.”

“I would load up the car and think, ‘Oh, I forgot something,’ ” Ayesha, 34, said in a cover story for Sweet July Magazine published Friday. “But nobody was forgotten. It started to turn my brain a little bit. Maybe somebody was missing. So we set out on this journey, knowing that this would complete our family.”

Since their marriage in 2011, Ayesha and Steph, 35, have welcomed three children: daughters Riley, 11, and Ryan, 8, and son Canon, 5.

“I’m also realizing how quickly time has gone by with our first three children, who are now selfsufficient and don’t need as much from us,” Ayesha said. “Canon came up to me the other day and asked, ‘Hey, Mommy, how’s your baby? Does your baby have a working brain?’ Getting to experience this through his eyes and through Ryan and Riley’s eyes has been so cool.”

Ayesha, displaying her baby bump on the magazine cover, discussed her pregnancy cravings, including Japanese peaches, breakfast sandwiches and watermelon, “which is so strange and also unfortunate because they’re not really in season.”

The couple, who lives in Atherton, is approaching this pregnancy with greater mindfulness, realizing how swiftly the first three went by. Ayesha mentioned that doctors classified this pregnancy as high-risk due to her age and referred to it as a “geriatric pregnancy.”

“I think there’s something that needs to be more nuanced when it comes to women, their age, and conversations around having children,” she said. “Many women in their 30s and 40s are going through this for the first time, and being told you’re ‘old’ feels alarming and wild. I think the narrative needs to be shifted a little bit.”

Ayesha said she is leaning on her spirituality, her support network and gratitude to get her through.

“What I’ve learned about motherhood is that you truly need to trust yourself,” she said. “You can read a million books and take 1,000 classes, but the most important thing is your maternal instinct. You’re always going to know what’s best for you and your child.”

The due date for the newest addition to the Curry family was not disclosed in the interview.
