A 46-year-old man has been charged with murder in the fatal stabbing of a woman at a home in the College Hill neighborhood last week, the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office said Wednesday.

The man, San Francisco resident Marcelano Wilson, faces charges of murder, elder abuse, first-degree residential burglary, evading an officer, assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury and second-degree commercial burglary, the DA’s office said. A criminal complaint against Wilson also alleges he used a deadly and dangerous weapon during the stabbing, the DA’s office said.

At his arraignment Tuesday, Wilson pleaded not guilty to all of the charges, according to the DA’s office.

The stabbing occurred on March 13, according to the DA’s office. About 9:03 a.m., officers responded to a residence on the 100 block of Appleton Avenue for a report of a possible burglary. Officers arrived at the scene to find the female victim suffering from apparent stab wounds, the DA’s office said. Paramedics pronounced the woman dead at the scene, according to the DA’s office.

The San Francisco Medical Examiner’s Office did not immediately respond to a request regarding the woman’s identity.

Within a few hours of the stabbing, police saw Wilson driving a car in San Francisco and pursued him after he didn’t stop when police tried to pull him over. The chase ended in Oakland, where police took Wilson into custody, the DA’s office said.

A court granted a motion by the DA’s office to detain Wilson pending trial because he is a public safety risk. His next court date is scheduled for April 16.

“I offer my condolences to the victim’s friends and family and unwavering commitment to pursuing justice in the courtroom,” said San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “Although there is nothing we can do to bring her back, we will do everything we can to ensure there is accountability and justice.”
