Bay Area concert promotion company Another Planet Entertainment, known for staging the annual Outside Lands festival in Golden Gate Park and operating historic venues such as the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco and the Fox Theater in Oakland, has announced plans to expand into Sacramento next year.

The Berkeley-based company is currently overseeing the construction of a midsize entertainment complex, Channel 24, in the heart of the California state capital. Slated to open in the first quarter of 2025, it marks the first venue that Another Planet has built from the ground up, overseeing every aspect from conception to design and execution.

The 2,150-capacity complex, located at 1800 24th St., promises “impeccable sightlines” from both the main floor and tiered balcony. The venue will also feature multiple bars with food options, a VIP area and an open-air patio upstairs. In addition, the building will house Channel 24’s operational offices.

A Sacramento Music Census report published last year highlighted a lack of sufficient live music performance venues in the region, which has led to many mid-tier touring acts bypassing Sacramento in favor of performing shows in San Francisco, San Jose and Lake Tahoe. Channel 24 aims to bridge the gap between small clubs and large auditoriums in the state’s capital, according to Allen Scott, Another Planet’s president of concerts and festivals.

“We have so many artists touring through Northern California that have to skip Sacramento because there is not an appropriately sized venue for them to play,” Scott said in a statement. “Channel 24, right in the heart of the city, fills that need, and we hope that the venue quickly becomes an integral part of Sacramento’s vibrant live music scene.”

Another Planet Entertainment also operates several other venues in California including the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, the Independent in San Francisco, the Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harveys and the Bellwether in Los Angeles. The company is currently renovating the Castro Theatre in San Francisco with plans to turn the longtime movie palace into a live performance venue.

The company has previously brought a diverse range of artists to Sacramento, including Arctic Monkeys, Phish, Metallica, Nine Inch Nails, Dave Matthews Band, Neil Young, Wilco, the Cure, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, and Bob Dylan, among others.

Further details about Channel 24 will be announced at a later date.
