James A. Diamantine, aged 81, of Oakland, Calif., passed away on March 23, 2024. The eldest son of James and Jean Diamantine; Jim, known by family and friends, was a man of quiet perseveran­ce. Raised in a vibrant Italian household, Jim honed his work ethic as a teenager alongside his father and brothers in their agricultur­al business producing honey and helping farmers pollinate their fields. His formative years at St. Elizabeth High School, were followed by cherished memories at St. Mary’s College, where he forged lifelong friendship­s and discovered his enduring passion for rugby. Jim’s dedication to the sport extended far beyond his playing days with the Gales; he remained an active member of the rugby community, serving as a founding member of the St. Mary’s College Rugby Advisory Board. He also served on the Board of Trustees for the St. Mary’s College East Bay Scholarshi­p Fund for many years. Upon completing his studies, Jim served in the US Coast Guard before embarking on a successful career as a real estate broker. Throughout the decades, he tirelessly supported his clients, assisting families in finding their ideal homes and empowering small business owners to achieve their dreams. In addition to his profession­al endeavors, Jim was passionate about antique trucks, touring for decades with the American Truck Historical Society. He served as President of the Diamantine Family Foundation, helping to support numerous charitable organizati­ons. Jim also volunteere­d his time for many years managing the census for St. Theresa’s Parish. Jim leaves behind a loving family; his wife, Darcy Diamantine of 37 years; daughter, Katherine Diamantine (Nicolas Litonjua); sisters, Annette Dempsey and Evelyn (Greg) Walker; brothers, Thomas (Jan), George (Mona), Albert (Christine), and Richard (Carol) Diamantine; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, April 3, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 30 Mandalay Road, Oakland, Calif. 94618. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Parkinson’s Foundation, via the Tribute Gift link or SMC Rugby Leadership Fund in honor of James Diamantine, PO Box 4300, Moraga, Calif. 94575.
