Petaluma bar security guards accused of assaulting patron
Five security guards were arrested after allegedly assaulting a patron at a Petaluma bar Saturday night, police said.
The victim of the assault called 911 shortly before midnight to report that he had been attacked following an argument with the security guards at Jamison’s Roaring Donkey on Kentucky Street in downtown, the Petaluma Police Department said in a statement Sunday.
The security guards — Diego Vega-Ramirez, 25; Christopher Jonathan Ortiz, 31; Miguel Jasso Berber, 25; Daniel Vega-Ramirez, 27; and Christopher Vega-Ramirez, 25 — were booked into Sonoma County Jail on felony battery charges, according to jail records. They remained in custody as of Sunday evening.
The victim, a 38-yearold Santa Rosa resident, told officers that he was in the bathroom washing his hands when a woman entered and went into a stall. Security guards followed her in and told her to leave. According to police, an argument ensued between the victim and the security guards after the victim “questioned the security staff ’s assessment of the situation.”
The victim, who, according to police, was sober during the altercation, continued to argue with staff members, who struck him and forced him to the ground.
After removing him from the bar, police said, the security guards “continued to assault the victim on the sidewalk.” An eyewitness told police that one guard held the victim in a chokehold while the others punched and kicked him.
According to police, the victim suffered significant injuries, including swelling and bruising on his head. Paramedics treated him at the scene.
Staff at Jamison’s Roaring Donkey did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
