Biden visits Bay Area, Silicon Valley for fundraising tour
President Joe Biden arrived in Silicon Valley on Thursday evening to attend a couple of big-money fundraisers hosted by tech industry leaders.
Air Force One landed at Moffett Airfield in Mountain View around 7:30 p.m. The president walked about 200 feet to a helicopter without stopping to greet anyone or wave to onlookers.
On Friday, the president was scheduled to attend fundraising events at the homes of venture capitalist Vinod Khosla in Portola Valley and Marissa Meyer, former Yahoo CEO, in Palo Alto, according to multiple media sources. The White House did not confirm the hosts or locations.
Tickets to the Khosla event were to run from $6,600 to $100,000, a fundraiser told the Chronicle. Meyer’s event was to charge from $30,000 to $50,000, according to Puck News, and Gov. Gavin Newsom was expected to attend.
This is Biden’s second visit to the Bay Area this year, following a February fundraising trip.
The Bay Area, and Silicon Valley in particular, is again shaping up to be a major fundraising destination for Biden as it was in 2020.
The president was expected to depart from the Bay Area on Friday with his next stop for more fundraising in Seattle.
While his accommodations were not announced, Biden has stayed before at the Fairmont Hotel atop Nob Hill, and the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency announced full-day street closures in the area as well as a shutdown of the California Street cable car line Thursday and Friday.
