West Coast Conference to add Grand Canyon, Seattle in ’25

- STAFF AND WIRE REPORTS Steve Kroner

Grand Canyon University and Seattle University will join the West Coast Conference beginning in July 2025, the WCC announced Friday.

The additions will give the WCC 11 full-time members. Oregon State and Washington State are affiliate members over 12 sports for the next two school years. That means there will be 13 WCC schools competing in men’s and women’s basketball in the 2025-26 season.

Grand Canyon and Seattle have been in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). Grand Canyon has increased its national profile in recent years; the

Lopes’ men’s basketball team beat St. Mary’s 75-66 on March 22 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Seattle was a member of the WCC (when it was known as the WCAC) from 1971 through ’80. The Redhawks won the College Basketball Invitational men’s title in March.

In other men’s college basketball news, Stanford has added 6foot-4 guard Derin Saran to its roster. Saran transferred from UC Irvine; he averaged 10.1 points per game and shot 50.2% from the floor as a freshman for the Anteaters this past season.

Saran is the second undergraduate transfer to join new head coach Kyle Smith’s program. Guard Oziyah Sellers will play for the Cardinal next season after spending two seasons at USC.
