Susan Holliday Goudy
May 14, 1934 to November 2, 2018
Susan Goudy peacefully passed away on November 2, 2018 at the age of 84. She is survived by her loving and faithful husband Robert (Bob) Goudy, her three children, Jim (Bibiana), Karen Swafford (Matthew), and Richard (Juanita), and her grandchildren, Annie, Cody, Claire, and Arian. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Lorraine Artoux (Albert) as well as her beloved cousin Jill Murrell.
Susan’s unwavering commitment to her family is exemplified by her marriage to Bob on June 25,1955, and their mutual enduring love cultivated a 63 year marriage. She knew she was the love of his life. They were San Mateo High School sweethearts, Bob as the senior and Susan as the freshman.
Born in Evanston, Illinois, she moved with her family to San Mateo as a child, where she grew up with two sisters and resided the rest of her life. Instilled with traditional and simple Midwest values, Susan was never one to grab center stage, preferring to participate and engage with acquaintances, friends and family. She enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, taking care of her family, playing bridge, card games, crossword puzzles and socializing with her friends. She was an active member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood.
She was an avid San Francisco Giants fan from the beginning and loyally followed through the good, the bad and the eventual three championships. She faithfully went to 49er home games with her husband at Candlestick Park in the championship era. Susan was a loving mother and grandmother, always excited to be with her family and engage with them despite the generation gap. As a result, she was beloved by all of her family.
As an empty nester, Susan re-entered the workforce and worked for the San Mateo election board for many years. Once retired, she traveled to Europe with family and friends. Later, Susan and Bob moved to The Peninsula Regent in San Mateo, with the goal of sharing their remaining years together in their condominium overlooking the S.F. Bay from San Francisco to the San Mateo Bridge. Once there, Susan built a new network of friends to engage in social events and dining.
She will be missed by all who knew her. A celebration of her life with family and friends will be held on December 8th. Also, a private celebration of her life for her Peninsula Regent friends will be held on December 7th, at 2PM at The Peninsula Regent Penthouse. Please reach out to the family if you plan to attend.
