Cal falls to OSU for 12th loss in row

Cal com­mit­ted 22 fouls on its way to los­ing its 12th straight game, 79-71 on Satur­day against an Ore­gon State squad that was ea­ger to erase the mem­o­ries of a 23-point loss to Stan­ford on Thurs­day.

Ethan Thomp­son scored 20 points with seven re­bounds and six as­sists, Stephen Thomp­son Jr. scored 21 with three 3-point­ers and Tres Tin­kle added 19 points and three steals for the host Beavers (15-8, 7-4 Pac-12).

Jus­tice Sue­ing and Dar­ius McNeill each scored 16 points and Con­nor Vanover tied a ca­reer-high with 15 points and added four blocks for Cal (5-18, 0-11).

The Bears went on a 6-0 run to trail 65-62 with 6:50 left, and trailed 73-71 af­ter a 3-pointer by Vanover with 1:45 left.

But Ethan Thomp­son was fouled and made both free throws, then a Cal 3-point at­tempt was off the mark on the sub­se­quent pos­ses­sion. Ky­lor Kel­ley put back his own missed shot with 40 sec­onds left to give the Beavers a 77-71 lead and a com­fort­able cush­ion.

#4 Gon­zaga 94, St. Mary’s 46:

Bran­don Clarke scored 24 points and blocked three shots as the host Bull­dogs routed the Gaels for their 14th con­sec­u­tive vic­tory.

Rui Hachimura added 18 points and Filip Petru­sev had 15 for Gon­zaga (23-2, 10-0 WCC), which is likely to move up in the AP poll af­ter No. 3 Vir­ginia lost to No. 2 Duke ear­lier Satur­day.

Tommy Kuhse scored 12 points and Ma­lik Fitts 11 for St. Mary’s (15-10, 6-4), which has lost 14 of its past 17 games against Gon­zaga.

St. Mary’s Jor­dan Ford, the WCC’s lead­ing scorer, was held to eight points.

Boise St. 105, San Jose St. 57:

Der­rick Al­ston scored 33 points as the host Bron­cos (11-13, 6-5 Moun­tain West) routed the the Spar­tans (3-19, 0-10), who have lost 13 games in a row. Michael Stead­man had 16 points for San Jose State.

WOMEN

St. Mary’s 80, San Diego 49:

Jas­mine For­cadilla scored 19 points and Syd­ney Rag­gio had 15 points and nine re­bounds to lead a bal­anced ef­fort as the vis­it­ing Gaels (16-8, 9-4 WCC) cruised past the Toreros (8-16, 1-12).

Loy­ola Mary­mount 73, USF 66:

Chelsey Gip­son scored 27 points for the vis­it­ing Li­ons (14-10, 8-5 WCC). Nia Alexan­der posted her first ca­reer dou­ble-dou­ble with a ca­reer-high 20 points and ca­reer-high 11 re­bounds for the Dons (6-17, 2-10 WCC), who had a sea­son-high 43 re­bounds, in­clud­ing 21 on the of­fen­sive end.

Pep­per­dine 76, Santa Clara 74:

Bar­bara Si­tang­gany’s layup with six sec­onds re­main­ing was the dif­fer­ence, and Yas­mine Robin­son-Ba­cote had 31 points and 12 re­bounds for the vis­it­ing Waves (15-8, 9-4 WCC). Ash­lyn Her­lihy, who had 17 points, led four play­ers in dou­ble-fig­ure scor­ing for the Bron­cos (10-13, 3-9).

Boise St. 83, San Jose St. 69:

Braydey Hod­gins had 21 points and A’Shanti Cole­man added 20 for the vis­it­ing Bron­cos (19-3, 10-1). Analyss Be­nally led the Spar­tans (2-19, 1-9) with 17 points.
