Local student is named big winner of the service award
Felton resident and San Lorenzo Valley High School senior Audrey Parmenter has received the Peter R. Marsh Student Silent Service Award for her efforts to raise funds for breast cancer research.
For the last eight years, Parmenter has raised more than $6,500 for the National Breast Cancer Research Institute.
She began fundraising when two of her grandmothers were diagnosed with breast cancer within a short time frame. Parmenter hosted fundraising dinners, silent auctions, sold arts and crafts, and has also been a team captain for Relay for Life.
The honor comes with a $500 cash award. Parmenter is the daughter of Ross and Katie Parmenter.
The Peter R. Marsh Foundation recognizes that students who unselfishly provide voluntary service in their communities possess above-average social/emotional intelligence, are more empathetic towards others, live more-peaceful lives, achieve greater-than-average academic success, graduate from high school and typically attend college.

Working on railroad
Lucca Riccoboni has a deep passion for the Swanton Pacific Railroad in Davenport. Even at the tender age of 10, working there has been a dream as long as he can remember.
To that end, Lucca and his father Michael Riccoboni started a GoFundMe to help rebuild and repair the railroad.
There is a lot of work to do to bring it back, and the goal is to help as much as I can to rebuild it, according to the GoFundMe page. All of the funds will be used for buying the equipment and parts needed to repair the tracks, the round house, the car barn and the engines.
As of Sunday, the effort has raised $2,050. To donate, visit gofundme.com.
