Stanford, Arizona to square off at Kaiser Permanente Arena
Cardinal unable to host games due to COVID-19 restrictions
SANTA aRUZ >> The Stanford men’s basketball team will host Arizona on Saturday at Kaiser Permanente Arena, home of the NBA G League’s Santa Cruz Warriors.
Tip- off is set for 5 p.m. and will be broadcast on Pac-12 Networks. Fans will not be in attendance.
“We are fortunate that the town of Santa Cruz and those involved with the Santa Cruz Warriors have been so willing to host this game,” Jerod Haase, Stanford’s director of men’s basketball, said Tuesday morning. “We are excited to open Pac-12 play on Saturday.”
The Cardinal (2-2), temporarily playing games outside Santa Clara County during COVID-19, opened its season with an appearance in the Camping World Maui Invitational, including an 82- 64 win over No. RV/25 Alabama in the opening round.
The Cardinal was slated to open Pac-12 play on Sun
day, but its contest with USC was postponed. The contest with Arizona (5- 0) will be the first in conference play for both teams.
Senior forward Oscar da Silva leads the Cardinal in scoring, averaging 17.3 points per game. Senior guard Daejon Davis is averaging 14.5 points.
The Cardinal announced another schedule change Monday. They played at
Cal State Northridge (3-1) on Tuesday afternoon.
Arizona, led by guard Jemarl Baker Jr., hosts Cal Baptist (3-2) on Wednesday in Tucson at 5 p.m.
Kaiser Permanente was slated to host another NCA A men’s game last week due to local COVID-19 restrictions. Instead, University of San Francisco scrambled and was able to remain on campus to beat Long Beach State 107-62 on Thursday at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.
