Stanford’s and Santa Clara University’s athletic teams are able to return to campus after Santa Clara County on Tuesday lifted the restrictions that were in place on contact sports because of the coronavirus.

Both universities have been playing home basketball games at Kaiser Permanente Arena in Santa Cruz because of the ban that has been in place all season.

The sixth-ranked Cardinal women’s team left Tuesday for three games in Washington and will return to Maples Pavilion on Feb. 5 against Colorado.

The men’s team — which went 5-0 at KP Arena — will travel to Arizona on Wednesday and will play its first home game Feb. 7 against Cal.

The No. 6 nationally ranked Stanford women, which feature Santa Cruz resident Haley Jones, a sophomore guard/forward, went 2-1 at KP Arena this season. Santa Clara’s women went 1-3 in town while the Broncos’ men went 2-2.

SCU POSTPONES NEXT FOUR GAMES >> Due to positive cases from COVID-19 testing and related contact tracing, the Santa Clara University men’s basketball

team announced Tuesday on Twitter that all teamrelated activities have been postponed, including upcoming games.

The Broncos (9-4, 3-2) postponed the next four games on their schedule, which covers a 14-day stretch. All four contests are West Coast Conference games.

Santa Clara was scheduled to host Pacific (5-3, 2-2) on Thursday night at Kaiser Permanente Arena in Santa Cruz and Saint Mary’s (11-5, 2-3) on Feb. 4

Also postponed were two road games: Portland (6-10,

0-7) on Saturday, and No. 1 Gonzaga (15-0, 6-0), a nationally televised contest, on Feb. 6.

The Broncos have had five games canceled this season and six games postponed. They’ve played home contests in Santa Cruz due to COVID-19 restrictions in Santa Clara County and are 2-2 at KP Arena.
