How to take action to keep our planet habitable

- Santa Cruz

Recent extreme weather events worldwide have demonstrated what the science of climate change predicted. Extreme fires, floods, heat waves, droughts, hurricanes, torrential rains, and freezing weather in lower latitudes (like Texas) are testing our ability to adapt. The most vulnerable among us are experiencing the worst impacts.

Climate science is no different than other types of science. Among other marvels, science has enabled us to send a rover to Mars, produced COVID-19 vaccines in record time, and given us a powerful palm sized computer (our phones). Dedicated climate scientists are warning us to take action now to avoid catastrophe.

How to help: 1. Study and discuss climate information with others (i.e. via Dr. Katherine Hayhoe’s excellent short video series “Global Weirding”) 2. Call on your Congresspeople and senators to pass carbon pricing legislation (see handy tools at citizensclimatelobby.org). Let’s keep our planet habitable for current and future generations. — David and Lorrie Bornstein,
