Poole, Hinton help SC earn fifth straight win

The Santa Cruz Warriors pieced together enough defense, rebounding and passing in a late run to pull away from the Iowa Wolves, the NBA G League’s only winless team, on Tuesday night in the Orlando bubble.

The Wolves didn’t produce a field goal and were held to three free throws over the final 6:30, as the Warriors went on a 12-2 run and posted their fifth straight win, 108-95.

The contest was the Warriors’ second in as many nights. They routed Agua Caliente 12990 Monday — the largest margin of victory (39) in franchise history.

“We talked about it being a trap game,” Kris Weems, the second-year Warriors coach, said of facing Iowa. “Having some success

and putting wins together, feeling good about ourselves and then you gotta have the proper respect for your opponent. I’m proud of the guys because we didn’t get discouraged.”

Guard Jordan Poole, on assignment from Golden State, rebounded from his eight-point outing Monday with one of two double-doubles posted by Santa Cruz. He finished with 29 points, 12 rebounds (and 10 of his team’s 20 turnovers). Reserve forward Nate Hinton, on assignment from Dallas, produced 11 points and 12 rebounds.
