Warriors add guard Evans to roster
The Santa Cruz Warriors acquired 6-foot-4 guard Jacob Evans III from the NBA G League player pool Tuesday.
Evans, a former Cincinnati Bearcats star who earned first-team allAmerican Athletic Conference honors as a junior in 2018, started the 2020-21 G league season with the Erie Bayhawks.
Kris Weems, the secondyear Warriors head coach, said Evans will participate in video review and walkthrough on Wednesday and could see action as early as Thursday, when the Warriors (6-3) face Memphis (35). The game will be televised at noon on ESPN2.
Evans, 23, was originally selected by the Golden State Warriors with the 28th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. He averaged 2.9 points, 1.2 rebounds, 0.9 assists and 10.8 minutes over 57 games (two starts) during his time with the Warriors before being traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the deal that brought forward Andrew Wiggins to Golden
State on Feb. 6, 2020.
“I trust Jacob,” Weems said Tuesday night. “I’ve coached him before. I know what he brings to the table. And if we need him, he’s another healthy body that can play defense, that can handle the ball, that can run the floor. He’s somebody we’ll probably have to use going forward and I trust what he can do.”
Evans was assigned to Santa Cruz for 23 games during his stint with Golden State and averaged 11.3 points and 3.7 rebounds.
Evans will wear jersey No. 15 for the Warriors.
