Players to watch this season in Santa Cruz County.

Santa Cruz High’s Keanna Miller posted topthree finishes in two divisions in the 2021 Santa Cruz Scholastic Surf League opener held Saturday at Pleasure Point.

Miller took first in the Shortboard Division ahead of Soquel’s Munchie Price and Half Moon Bay’s Zoe Chait. Miller was second in the Longboard Division behind teammate Faith Bartlett. Chait also took third in the Longboard Division. Bartlett finished fifth in shortboard.

Miller and Bartlett’s showing helped Santa Cruz beat Santa Cruz Mountain, 63-38. HMB knocked off Aptos, 61.5-37.5, and Soquel beat Marin, 63-42.

Santa Cruz Mountain’s Marcus Palah won the Shortboard Division, finishing ahead of Marin’s Johnny Ratcliffe and Soquel’s Dillon Wilmers. Soquel’s John Paul Henderson won the Longboard Division, topping HMB’s Dedon Prince and Santa Cruz’s Reef Bennet.

The next SCSSL event is slated for the weekend of March 20-21 at Steamer Lane. The competitio­n date will be decided March 17.

HOLE-IN-ONE >> Scotts Valley 10-year-old Lucius Niesen aced the 115-yard 15th hole at Pasatiempo Golf Club on Sunday with a 7-iron. It’s his second career ace. CORALES PUNTACANA OPEN QUALIFIER >> Aptos’ Eddie Olson shot 2-under-par 70 and missed the cut to advance from the Corales Puntacana Open qualifier on Monday.

Olson had four birdies and two bogeys at The Preserve at Ironhorse in West Palm Beach, Florida.

The low four qualifiers advanced to the 2021 Corales Puntacana Championsh­ip on March 25-28 at Corales Golf Course in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Andrew Yun (67), Chris Wiatr (68) and MJ Daffue (68) secured spots in the field. Ten players shot 69, including former Stanford star Isaiah Salinda. Results from the playoff weren’t available.

PINE RIDGE OPEN >> Scotts Valley’s Garrett Hormel, a sophomore at University of Oregon, won the Advanced Division title at the Pine Ridge Open in Springfiel­d, Oregon, on Saturday.

Hormel shot a 12-underpar 108 total to edge Trevor Snyder (109) of White City, Oregon, and Ethan Plumb (112) of Monmouth, Oregon, for the crown.

Hormel took fourth in the Open Division of the Pro/Am Monster on Sunday with a 7-under 103 total. Andrew Cooper of Eugene, Oregon, won with a 15-under 95 total.
