Cabrillo College men’s soccer explodes for 16 goals in rout

In one of the most lopsided results in school history, the Cabrillo College men’s soccer team routed host Monterey Peninsula 16-0 in the teams’ Coast Conference South Division match Tuesday.

It was the Seahawks’ largest single-game offensive output according to records on file at cccaa.org, which date back to 2011, if not the largest in program history.

It was Cabrillo’s first time scoring 10 goals in a match since beating Chabot 10-3 on Nov. 13, 2015.

Eric Vazquez, Jael Leal, Maxence Huin and Tanner Ruddy each scored two goals for Cabrillo, which led 7-0 at the half.

Sebastian Lopez had one goal and two assists, and Alessandro Conte, Thomas Bugnet and Mohamed El Kaddouri each had one goal and one assist.

Eduardo Pardo Ordonez, Hugo Vargas-Rios, Brie Baptiste and Ricardo Alvarado-Contreras each had one goal, Luis Calles Escalante had two assists and Alexis Valenzuela Mardueno had one assist.

MPC dropped to 1-11-0 overall, 0-3-0 in conference.

The Seahawks (4-2-1, 1-10) play at West Valley (4-71, 2-3-0) in a cross-division match Saratoga on Friday at 4 p.m.

FRESNO PACIFIC 2, UC SANTA CRUZ 1, 2 OT >> Kailas Dhond scored on a pass from Max Beldner to give the Banana Slugs the lead in the 23rd minute, but the Sunbrds tied the score in the 85th minute and won in double overtime Tuesday.

Marley Edwards tied the score and Victor Rivas produced the winning goal on an assist from Fellipe Souza in the 104th minute.

Santa Cruz held an 8-6 advantage in corner kicks and outshot their opponent 21-13.

A total of 39 fouls were called in the chippy battle.

Goalie Arman Salimi made two saves for NCAA Division III UCSC (3-8-2) and Matteo Swenson made six saves for the D-II Sunbirds (3-5-0).

UCSC, winless in its past three games since opening the month with a double overtime win over Bethesda, plays at La Verne (2-8-1) on Oct. 20 at 7 p.m.

Women’s soccer CABRILLO 1, AT EVERGREEN VALLEY 1 >>

Jennifer Limon scored on a pass from Aubree Westjohn in the 61st minute to help the Seahawks forge a tie in the teams’ Coast Conference South Division match Tuesday.

Goalie Jessica Zavala made three saves for the Seahawks (5-2-3, 2-0-1),

who play at No. 11 state ranked Hartnell (11-2-1, 3-0-0) in Salinas on Friday at 4 p.m.

Evergreen Valley’s record moved to 4-5-2, 1-1-1.

Girls tennis

APTOS 7, SAN LORENZO VALLEY 0 >> Rebecca Fuller, Holly Hegna, Autumn Zaretsky and Ashley Lavender won their singles matches in straight sets in their Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League sweep Tuesday.

Fuller topped Kendall Fournier 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles.

The Mariners earned doubles wins in straight sets from Annika Lee and Madison Phillips, Taylor Hilger and Anastasia Jackson, and Jilliane Beltran and Erin Schmidt.

The Mariners (6-2, 5-1) host Santa Cruz on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Girls water polo AT SOQUEL 22, HARBOR 0 >>

Arizona State committed senior Kelsey Matthies had six goals, seven assists and eight steals as the Knights scored 20-plus goal in a game for the fifth time this and posted their third shutout Tuesday.

Goalie Cathryn Perry also played the field and scored five goals and had one assist for the Knights (16-1, 6-0). Perry is third in the state with a 5.8 goals-against average, according to statistics submitted to MaxPreps. com.

Senior Deijah Stephens had four goals and six steals and junior Quinn Healy had one goal, two assists and seven steals.

Addison Lane, Leah Murphy, Summer Stelck, Ella Moker, Olivia Harris and Kayla Matthies also scored goals.

The Knights host SLV on Tuesday and close the regular season at Santa Cruz on Oct. 21. Both matches start at 6:30 p.m.

Girls golf

AT APTOS 4, SOQUEL 2 >> No. 1 Alexandra Gonzales and No. 3 Colette Fort each earned 2 up wins and the Mariners prevailed in the inaugural Crusader Cup, a match-play showdown, at Seascape Golf Club on Tuesday.

Soquel’s Keala Raatior and Sydney Harmount prevailed 2 & 1 in their matches, No. 2 and 4 singles, respective­ly.

Aptos’ Jemine Blanco won 3 & 1 in the No. 5 match and teammate Lily McGee won unopposed at No. 6.
