Marine sanctuary seeks council applicants
The NOAA’s Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary is seeking applicants for three seats on its advisory council, according to a release from the organization. The council ensures public participation in sanctuary management and provides advice to the sanctuary superintendent.
The sanctuary is accepting applications for the conservation (alternate), Agriculture (alternate), College (alternate) seats on its advisory council.
Candidates are selected based on their expertise and experience in relation to the seat for which they are applying, community and professional affiliations, and views regarding the protection and management of marine resources. Candidates selected for the agriculture alternate and college alternate seats should expect to serve until February 2024. The conservation alternate should expect to serve until February 2025.
Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary advisory council was established in 1994 to ensure continuous public participation in the management of the sanctuary. Serving in a volunteer capacity, the advisory council’s 20 voting members and eight ex-officio members represent a variety of local user groups, the general public, and state and federal governmental jurisdictions. Alternates attend meetings when primary members are not available and assume a seat if a primary member resigns.
Applications are due Dec. 10. To receive an application kit, visit montereybay.noaa.gov.
