PCS misses two late shots, chance to pull into tie for first in division

Pacific Collegiate School’s boys basketball team fell short in its bid to pull into a tie for first place in the Pacific Coast Athletic League’s Cypress Division standings on Friday.

Division leading Oakwood scored in the final 10 second to edge the Pumas 57-56 in a tight, physical game at Enterprise Sports Club in Scotts Valley.

Weston Ow made two free throws to put PCS ahead 56-55 with 12 seconds left.

The Pumas forced a missed shot and Hawks (18-1, 6-0) got the rebound and went down court and scored. PCS also missed a shot attempt with three seconds.

“We did so many good things, it stings to lose on an offensive rebound,” Pumas coach Duane Garner said.

Malachi Douyon led the Pumas with 27 points. Ow scored 10 points and Elias Golino added seven points and 11 rebounds.

Oakwood led 33-29 at the half.

PCS (11-4, 4-2) plays at Seaside (5-10, 1-2) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

AT SAN LORENZO VALLEY 58, SCOTTS VALLEY 36 »

Kai Groleau scored 16 points and Asher Dolinger added 13 points in the Cougars’ SCCAL win over the rival Falcons in front of a large crowd Friday night.

Damien Aguilar scored eight points for the Cougars, who jumped out to a 31-11 halftime lead.

Tristan Roure scored 15

points to lead Scotts Valley and Zach Musch added 13 points.

SLV (15-4, 4-1) plays at league leading Aptos (173, 6-0) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Girls basketball

SCOTTS VALLEY 57, AT SLV 33 » Senior Kaitlin Imai, one of Cal-Hi Sports’ State Stat Stars of the Week after her record setting 44-point, 13 3-pointer outing Jan. 21, continued her stellar shooting against the Cougars on Friday.

The senior guard made four 3-pointers and finished with 29 points. She was 7-of-8 shooting from the free throw line, and had six rebounds, six blocks and three steals.

Senior guard Elaina Benoit made three 3-pointers and finished with nine points, to go aling with four assists and three steals.

Junior Hailey McKinney had six points and five steals for the Falcons and

senior Ava Turowski had six points, four rebounds and four assists.

The Falcons (10-7, 3-2) celebrate senior night Tuesday, when they host Harbor at 6 p.m.

Men’s basketball

CABRILLO 79, AT DE ANZA, 71 » Austin James scored 22 points, and the Seahawks won their third straight Coast Conference South Division game Friday night.

Brandon Harmon, Joe Rush, Jonel Aponte and Alphonse Alfred each scored 11 points for the Seahawks.

The game was played without spectators due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The same will apply Monday, when Cabrillo (107, 3-1) hosts Alameda (2-15) in a nonconfere­nce game at 5 p.m.

The Dons fell to 4-17, 0-6.

Women’s basketball

AT DE ANZA 59, CABRILLO 54 » The Seahawks dropped

their Coast Conference South Division game Friday night.

Cabrillo led 13-5 after the first quarter, but Mountain Lions rallied for a 29-24 lead at the half with a big second quarter. The teams played even the rest of the way.

Cabrillo (3-13, 1-3) host Mission on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

The Mountain Lions improved to 9-6, 1-1.

Men’s volleyball

UC SANTA CRUZ 3, CONCORDIA (WISCONSIN) 1 » Colton Jeffrey had a match-high 20 kills and the Banana Slugs won their first match, 25-16, 32-34, 25-19, 25-20, at Kaiser Permanente Arena on Friday night.

Cinjun Coe had 17 kills and Zachary Thompson had nine kills and four blocks.

Mohan Duvvuri had 37 assists, 12 digs and two aces for UCSC (1-6). Aaron Fox had 14 digs and Max Mednick had 12 digs.

The teams square off again at KP Arena on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Boys soccer

ST. FRANCIS 5, CEIBA 5 » Garrett Lee scored four goals and the Sharks earned a draw in their PCAL Arroyo Division match on Friday.

Emiliano HernandezT­orres also scored for the Sharks. Austin Kholstadt had four assists.
