Santa Cruz's Thomson, Maine's Kletzer win Turkey Trot 10K titles

Santa Cruz's Jay Thomson and Sarah Kletzer of Waterville, Maine, won 10K running titles at the Turkey Trot in Santa Cruz on Saturday.

Thomson completed the course, which featured a start and finish on Delaware Street, by the back entrance to Natural Bridges, in 34 minutes and 39 seconds. Santa Cruz's Diego Jara Simkin (36:19) took second out of 72 runners, and Santa Cruz's Alex Delong (37:57) was third.

Kletzer finished in 45:12. Santa Cruz's Simone Ange Winkler (45:28) took second, and Scotts Valley's Christina Hasson (45:50) was third.

Half Moon Bay's Anthony Cortes won the 5K race in 16:05. Santa Cruz's Benthan

Vu (16:23) took second out of 115 runners, and Oakland's Bjorn Trowery (17:29) was third.

Santa Cruz's Iris Paten (20:06) was the top female 5K finisher. Lucia Muthu (20:25) of Chicago took second, and Santa Cruz's Simone Winkler (22:26) was third.

Women's basketball UCSC 68, AT POMONA-PITZER 57 >>

Ariel Anderson only played 17 minutes in the Banana Slugs' win, but she had a big impact on the outcome in Claremont on Saturday.

The sophomore wing had 14 points, five rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals.

Senior guard Lindsay Zientek had 10 points and seven rebounds for UCSC, which led 42-19 at the half. Fifth-year forward Amanda Inserra had eight points and four rebounds.

UCSC (2-1) was scheduled to play at Caltech (1-1) in Pasadena on Sunday afternoon, after the Sentinel went to press.

AT MODESTO 92, CABRILLO 44 >>

The winless Seahawks were doubled up in their nonconfere­nce loss Saturday.

Cabrillo (0-6) hosts Cuesta (4-2) on Nov. 29 at 7 p.m.

Men's basketball

CABRILLO 86, AT SHASTA 64 >> Sophomore forward Solomon Tucker scored 18 points and sophomore guard Darius Best scored 17 as the Seahawks finished 3-0 at the Shasta Invitation­al on Saturday.

Sophomore guard Amare Ames added 11 points for the Seahawks, and freshman guard Max Parmigiani scored 10.

Cabrillo (6-0) hosts Cuesta (1-5) on Saturday at 3 p.m.

AT POMONA-PITZER 74, UCSC 66 >> Ian McCloskey had 16 points, six rebounds, and five assists in the Banana Slugs' loss in Claremont on Saturday.

Zino Okah had 13 points, seven rebounds, and five assists for UCSC. Tyler Kessinger had 13 points and three rebounds.

UCSC (2-2) was scheduled to play at Caltech (1-3) in Pasadena on Sunday afternoon, after the Sentinel went to press
