Castaneda's two goals help Aptos knock off host SLV

Alexa Castaneda scored twice in the first half, and Aptos High's girls soccer team beat San Lorenzo Valley 3-0 in Felton on Thursday.

The Mariners (8-3-1 overall) have won five straight matches, all by shutout, since losing to Los Gatos 3-0 on Dec. 16. They improved to 2-0 in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League with their latest victory, and play at Soquel (6-3-1, 2-0-0) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Ella Shoemaker had a goal and an assist.

Shoemaker scored in the fourth minute on a pass from Izzie Schenone. Castaneda finished off a pass from Scarlet Statler in the 16th minute. Castaneda also made good on a pass from Shoemaker in the 33rd minute.

Goalies Alessandra Zuniga and Evelyn Pini each made one save for the Mariners.

Goalie Taylor Long had

seven saves for the Cougars (5-3-1, 0-2-0), who play at Harbor on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

AT SCOTTS VALLEY 3, HARBOR 0 >> Freshman forward Taylor Ericson scored twice in the Falcons' SCCAL win Thursday.

Senior goalie Paige Bariteau made three saves, and sophomore backup Jazzy Phillips made four saves in the Falcons' shutout.

Scotts Valley finished with 10 shots on goal.

Ericson scored in the third and 29th minutes. Her second goal was assisted by freshman center defender Campbell Flores, who took a free kick from midfield.

Sophomore forward Ella Ireland dribbled up the left side and scored on a shot to the far post in the 60th minute.

On Tuesday at 7 p.m., the Falcons (4-4-1, 1-1-0) play at Santa Cruz, and the Pirates (6-2-0, 0-1-0) host San Lorenzo Valley.

Jadah Gustus scored six goals in the Mariners' Pacific Coast Athletic League Santa Lucia Division rout Thursday.

Ceiba (1-5-0, 0-3-0) plays at Stevenson on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.

Boys soccer

AT ST. FRANCIS 3, MARINA 1 >> Liam Rawson scored twice in the Sharks' PCAL Santa Lucia Division win Thursday.

Elias Garcia also scored for the Sharks (3-2-0, 2-00), who face Oakwood at Morgan Hill Soccer Complex on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.

Boys basketball

KIRBY 53, TRINITY CHRISTIAN 30 >> Rain Li had 23 points and seven rebounds, and the Griffins pulled away in the second half to earn the win in the PCAL Santa Lucia Division game Thursday.

The Griffins led 15-14 at half. Li made four 3-pointer to help Kirby outscore its opponent 21-8 in the third quarter.

Chris Lively had 16 points, six rebounds, and three blocks. Teammate Brooke Alden scored six points.

Kirby (3-6, 2-0) hosts Anzar (1-4, 1-1) on Friday at 7 p.m.

Girls basketball

HOLLISTER 53, AT WATSONVILL­E 38 >> Isabella Love made three 3-pointers and finished with 15 points, but the Wildcatz dropped their PCAL Gabilan Division game Thursday.

Briana Leon had eight points and six rebounds for the Wildcatz, who trailed by as many as 32 points and rallied late. Teammate Stephanie Martinez had five points, seven rebounds, and five steals.

Watsonvill­e (6-8, 1-3) hosts Alisal (11-1, 3-0) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
