Price, Storrer to compete for US at ISA World Junior Surfing Games
Santa Cruz's Brody Price and Capitola's Olivia Storrer were named to Team USA for the 2024 ISA World Junior Surfing Games on Thursday.
The ISA World Junior Surfing Championship will be held on the iconic waves of La Bocana and El Sunza in El Salvador on May 3-12.
“It's a huge honor to make the ISA team,” said Head Coach Ryan Simmons. “The travel team that earned their slots this year is crazy good. We've got multiple returning ISA World Champ surfers, multiple returning medalists, and some fresh faces gracing the squad this time around. I'm frothed to work with this team to bring gold home to USA soil.”
Eden Walla of San Clemente, and Lanea Mons of Jacksonville, Florida, also made the girls U16 team. Zoe Chait of Half Moon Bay, Sara Freyre of Huntington Beach, and Talia Swindal of Malibu made the girls' U18 team.
Quaid Fahrion of Costa Mesa, and Beckham McCart of Indialantic, Florida, also made the boys' U16 team. Luke Wyler of San Clemente, Will Deane of Nags Head, N.C., and Benji Lange of St. Augustine, Florida, made the boys' U18 team.

ORENDAIN SIGNS WITH UNION >> Watsonville native Anthony Orendain was one of three players signed by Monterey Bay F.C. on Wednesday. Former CSUMonterey Bay standout Miguel Guerrero and former UC Davis playmaker Ryan Dieter also joined the Union with one-year contracts.
Orendain, a 6-foot-2 forward, started 72 games in four seasons at the University of Pacific in Stockton. He produced 14 goals and eight assists, before joining Monterey Bay F.C. 2 last year in its inaugural season.
The Watsonville High alum was an all-CCS and all-State selection in 2016. He scored 20 goals in his high school career.
Boys tennis AT SCOTTS VALLEY 4, APTOS 3>>
Seniors Hunter Young and Julian De Santos beat Samer Awwad and Owen
McGinty 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 doubles to clinch the Falcons' team win over the defending champion Mariners in their Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League match Thursday.
Aptos won three of four singles matches, but the Falcons fought back and won tie-breaker matches at No. 4 singles and No. 1 and 2 doubles.
“This was a true team effort and I'm so happy for the guys, especially the seniors,” said Scott Goodrich, the Falcons' fifth-year head coach. “My team dug deep today and played clutch tennis at high pressure moments. It was exciting to watch two solid teams' compete.”
The Mariners got off to a strong start with senior Koosha Safari defeated senior James Delaney 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Aptos sophomore Ben Zaretsky beat senior Marshall Dodge 6-1, 6-0, and Mariners senior John McGowan defeated senior Henry Spitzer 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 (10-5) in a thirdset tiebreaker.
The Falcons' Jules Dudek and Aditya Hannon beat Sean Spencer and Jack Taylor 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) in another third-set tiebreaker. At No. 4 singles, Falcons junior Elijah Diamond defeated senior Jack Eldridge 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 (119) and Scotts Valley's doubles team of Wesley Theissen and Gabriel Dodge beat Nick Hambright and Adam Allen 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (11-9).
On Tuesday, Scotts Valley (2-0) hosts Santa Cruz, while Aptos (1-1) plays at Soquel.

honors on the front nine at Seascape Golf Club and lead the Cougars to a narrow win in SCCAL play Thursday.
Keenan Buntz (42), Luke Fontinell (45), Wyatt McCabe (45), and Conner Scarborough (49) also scored for the Cougars.
Ben Nowark (39), Luke Garvey (41), Colby Culbertson (44), Andrew Cox (46), Shawn Roschelle (47) scored for the Mariners (21).
Aptos faces Scotts Valley at DeLaveaga Golf Course on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

SAN LORENZO VALLEY 7, AT SOQUEL 1 >> Cheyenne Owen had a double, triple, two RBI, and scored twice as the defending SCCAL champion Cougars opened their title defense with a win Thursday.
Ali Reger had three hits and three RBI. Alyssa Struthers had two hits and scored twice, and Maddy Murphy also scored twice.
Reger pitched four innings and earned the win. Emma Niizawa took the loss.
On offense, Niizawa and Isabel Vega each had two hits.
SLV (4-3, 1-0) plays at Valley Christian in San Jose on Friday at 4 p.m.
AT SANTA CRUZ 14, HARBOR 3 >> Tez Medina-Mates had two hits, two RBI, and scored three runs in the Cardinals' SCCAL win Thursday.
The Cardinals took advantage of nine Pirates errors.
Leah Serna had a hit and three RBI for the Cardinals. Makayla Norman had a hit, walk, two RBI, and scored a run. Molly Pisciotta had two walks, a hit, and scored
twice. Poppy Coursey scored three runs.
Malibu Dominguez had an RBI and scored a run for the Pirates. Addisyn Schafer had a walk and scored a run.
Winning pitcher Rona Lewis struck out eight batters over three innings.

Sofia Niklaus had five goals, two assists, 10 draw possessions, and three draw controls in the Falcons' win Thursday.
Skylar Dufour had three goals, four assists, and seven draw controls. Claire Skinner had a goal and an assist, and Dillon Fiorita and Lili Raif each scored a goal.
Scotts Valley (2-0) play at Monte Vista Christian in Watsonville on Monday.

Matt Morrison had two hits, one walk, RBI, and run scored in the Seahawks' Coast Conference South Division win Thursday.
Anthony Karagiannopoulos had three RBI for the Seahawks, and Jacob Pappas had two hits and scored a run.
Winning pitcher Oscar Knapp gave up four hits over five scoreless innings. He struck out four batters and walked two. Daniel Madrigal pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save.

SAN JOSE CITY 11, AT CABRILLO 4 >> Abreanna Alba hit two doubles, had one RBI and scored a run in the Seahawks' Coast Conference loss Thursday.
Brooklyn Llamas counted a double among her two hits and she had two RBI. Kasydi Bennett had two hits, one RBI, and a run scored.
Pitcher Avery Mytnik earned the win and Alicia Mendez took the loss.
Cabrillo (10-8, 1-3) hosts Feather River (5-7) on Friday at noon.
