From The Santa Fe New Mexican: May 2, 1916: One of the boldest robberies committed here in recent years occurred late yesterday afternoon when Candelario Brito entered the home of Mrs. D.B. Bertholf, an Iowa healthseeker residing on College street, and made off with a gold chain lying on the bureau. The chain was valued at $30 and and belonged to Mrs. Bertholf’s husband, now traveling in Colorado.

As soon as she had recovered the shock caused by the robbery, committed in broad daylight, Mrs. Bertholf went to the house of Col. Jose D. Sena and telephoned the police. She had recognized Brito and told City Marshal Ricardo Alarid that she would like very much to get back her chain.
