From The Santa Fe New Mexican:

March 6, 1917: A dispatch today from Washington announces that the nomination of Miguel A. Otero of Santa Fe for the United States marshal in the Panama Canal Zone was sent to the United States Senate this morning by President Wilson.

This news will be received with delight by former Governor Otero’s many friends in the city and throughout the state.

March 6, 1967: LAS CRUCES (AP) — Gov. David Cargo’s attempt to oust Hugh Milton from the Highway Commission has resulted in stormy criticism, including a newspaper’s suggestion that impeachment proceedings be considered.

In a front-page Sunday editorial, the Las Cruces Sun-News asserted, “Cargo has repeatedly demonstrated immaturity for the responsible position to which he was elected.

“Perhaps it would not be premature to start considering impeachment proceedings against the chief executive.”

March 6, 1992: Pat Buchanan, the feisty conservative taking on President Bush, is fighting to get on the primary ballot in New Mexico — and state officials are paying attention. The committee that last month decided to leave the Republican challenger off the state’s June primary ballot will meet again to consider including Buchanan.

That decision Thursday came after Buchanan threatened to sue and after supporters of the fiery right-wing candidate expressed anger that Buchanan had been left off the ballot.
