State paid $3M to family of Santa Fe woman killed by officer, May 18 ‘Fellow state police officers investigated the shooting’ — ha ha ha ha. This cop deserves the death penalty, not the state paying out millions. “Concerning the settlement amount the state paid in 2015 yet did not reveal until now, it seems there are several ways reporters or other interested parties could obtain this information without asking the state for it directly. Ask the family who was paid the settlement. Was this done? If so, what did the family say? Ask the state DFA (Department of Finance and Administration) for all checks paid by the state related to the state Risk Management Division for the appropriate time period. … “Recommend FOG (Foundation for Open Government), which requested this settlement information, file a claim with the state court system for what I believe is $100 per day for Inspection of Public Records Act request violations starting from March 2015. List the names, titles and contact information for the state Risk Management Division people who delayed providing the settlement information would improve this story. Readers should know who these people are since it seems these state employees are more interested in protecting state information rather then helping the public know more about state actions.” J.J.

Going unsaid in this piece is that the grand jury transcript, which can be seen and is available to the journalist, establishes that Officer [Oliver] Wilson lied, that the passenger told the truth, which was consistent with the video. All shots were fired as [Jeanette] Anaya drove away from the officer. … There is plenty of evidence to justify reopening the Anaya case.” C.M. From Facebook

That will never bring her back. I guess he is still a cop?” D.W.

No amount of money can replace her to the family.” L.G-B.

High on drugs and resisting arrest … hmm.” J.P.E. Police department seeks $27,000 for Segways, May 18

How about walking around the Plaza and actually doing something other then sitting in their cars? Or better yet, figure out how to pull over a car without three or four units for backup.” R.R.

I work downtown and do see officers walking and using bikes. And see them having to deal with situations where there is the threat of violence, and they do need backup for both their safety but also members of the public. These would allow backup officers to arrive much faster when the streets are blocked by traffic.” B.A.

Just for proposing this, they should have $27,000 removed from their budget and given to the school system. That is a better way of preventing crime, after all.” R.M.

In Santa Fe it is an unnecessary expense; downtown is so small that they can do fine with bicycles.” J.C.

[Are] all the officers riding the Segways going to have the updated Santa Fe Police Department romper uniform for these?” B.G.

That’s Santa Fe for you; they are more worried about the tourist than there own children.” M.V. Paul Blart, Santa Fe Plaza Cop!” A.L.E. Waste of money.” J.S. Jaguar Drive could soon connect to N.M. 599, May 18 From Facebook

This location is the perfect place for a Starbucks drive-thru. If you’re going north the next coffee is Camel Rock, a long way if you’re road weary.” P.S.

We also need a Starbucks drive-thru on the right side of Cerrillos Road heading northeast.” L.A.

Or maybe a local coffee place. Why commercialize more? Support local.” P.P.

I said Starbucks because their coffee tastes better than any local coffee place in this town. True story. Last I heard, Starbucks supplies jobs here also.” L.A.

Thank you! Finish the road please. Looking forward to having a grocery store nearby. Trader Joe’s would be great!” G.G-L.

It’s about time.” J.J. V.N.R. State lottery execs blame scholarship requirement as sales sag, May 18

Wait, 70 percent isn’t enough for advertising and marketing, they need the other 30 percent, too?” A.B.

With no money for higher ed, why do we need to advertise?” B.G.

This is just another hit against education having to depend on the lottery for money.” D.S.

We could pay for the scholarships if it weren’t for the pesky scholarships.” A.F. No, we blame overpaid execs at the lottery.” M.M. No, just no.” K.R.
